Un_Mute, Nomad Soundsystems, and Minimax are coming together to present a very special location. A community space in the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami where local and international artists come together to create, perform, and exhibit their work. Esquina De Abuela is rooted in the legacy of Zoila Caridad Guerra, grandmother (Abuela) of Fabian, the founder. During the Cuban Revolution, Fabian’s Abuela fought for her country. She showed the same love and devotion to her home here in Allapattah, which was passed on to her grandson Fabian. His vision is to tell the story of her bravery and integrity to inspire people to have a more just way of life. The story of Zoila Guerra is painted across the center with incredible works of art created by some of the most exciting artists from around the world along with some of Miami’s best as well.
This unique urban oasis felt like the perfect backdrop to present three of our favorite selectors – Gene On Earth, Shonky, and Traumer paired with a course of fresh open air. Set in a surreal venue off the beaten path, paired with amazing artist installations plus a second room offering performances from Brother Dan, Chklte, Diego Teran b2b Demenz, Jason Rault, and Lou Flores. The open-air area will feature extended sets from Gene On Earth, Shonky, Traumer along with a special opening by Miami’s own Imbue with an incredible hybrid performance.
Gene awakens in the hazy sunlight of his own world, heading towards the horizon on the road to everywhere and nowhere all at once. Once a monochrome existence, he’s found himself now submerged in a vivid technicolor dream world. Wherever it leads, he’ll find out soon enough.
Since releasing his first 12-inch in 2005 Shonky has cultivated a signature sound, a style all of his own that has been part of his continuing success. He is one of the key exponents from his hometown Paris, helping to re-establish the city’s prominence on the global stage alongside his Apollonia co-dees, Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom. Shonky has traversed the globe, delivering his brand of groovy, techy house to club and festival audiences from Miami to Moscow and everywhere in between. Parallel to his DJ endeavors, he has been constantly refining his production skills delivering a stream of classic releases on labels such as Freak N’Chic, mobile, Contexterrior, Real Tone, and his own Apollonia outlet.
With years of knowledge and experience behind him, Shonky is a master of his craft, possessing an abundance of talent both on the decks and in the studio. Infectious energy emanates from everything he touches, and his enthusiasm for music never wanes. The mastermind behind Gettraum, a platform where he releases his experimentations with house music on a minimal tip, Traumer delivers hypnotic performances and music that has the support of his peers and idols.
